Ancient Herstory

We're pregnant :)

It feels strange to say that online, as we've only told our immediate families so far (but let's be honest, no one is reading this anyway). Two egg collections, two rounds of IVF. Still only 7 weeks, so we aren't counting our embryos before they hatch, but we're happy.

M is a saint and a trooper. She posseses an inner strength and resolve that I simply don't have. Love her.

We told our parents a couple weeks ago. We had been keeping them in the loop with our appointments, so they knew we were waiting on results. Thrilled, of course. Tears from my folks, hugs and a clap on the shoulder from M's. T and A were also there when we told M's parents, and I told J&S in the group chat the next day.

That just left S.

We hadn't spoken in over 2.5 years, ever since she changed her name and moved to Texas. It went about how you would expect.

It was April 2024.

Actually it probably started back in November 2023.

I mean, it really started way before, but how do you capture a lifetime of disfunction in a way that would mean anything to anyone who wasn't party to it?

If I'm telling this story, and I'm not sure that I am, I suppose it really started at the Grand America Hotel, in Salt Lake City, Utah, on May 5th, 2019. It was the day after I graduated with my master's in Mechanical Engineering. We went out to breakfast as a family to celebrate, and it was the first time my sister called me abusive.

My offence? Refusing to apologize after a disagreement over the difficulty of a local hike.
